Adobe Reader 9 is Adobe’s free PDF file viewer. Adobe.com says that Adobe Reader 9 is used to view, search, print and collaborate on Adobe PDF-formatted files. One of the features in Adobe Reader 9 is the automatic updater, enabled by default when the program is installed. If you want to disable this feature, the setting can easily be removed.
- Open Adobe Reader 9 by clicking on its desktop icon or selecting it from your Start menu.
- Select “Edit” from Adobe Reader’s menu.
- Click “Preferences,” located at the bottom of the “Edit” drop-down.
- Choose “Updater” from the menu on the left to open options specific to the Adobe updater.
- Select “Do not download or install updates automatically.” Click “OK” to close the “Preferences” screen. Adobe Reader 9 will no longer check for updates.
